Auntie Tuesday

AUGUST 28 - Both Mateo and I look forward to Tuesdays because that usually means that Nina is coming to play. For that reason we have renamed her Auntie Tuesday or Tia Martes (for those of you who speak Spanish.) You can see by the expression on their faces how fun Tuesdays are for us all. Mateo loves his Auntie Tuesday!!!

6 Months Old!

AUGUST 26 - It's so hard to believe that 6 months have past since Mateo was born. At his check-up, he came in at the 75th percentile for height and weight. He's fat and happy and healthy : ) With mixed emotions, this milestone also marks my return to the workforce.

Cabo San Lucas (Ivy's Picks)

Ric picked my favorite family photos, but here are few of my other photo faves:
Photo 1 - Mateo squealing with excitement over our one night at the Hilton Golf Resort & Spa (we spent the rest of the week at The Westin)
Photo 2 - Mateo sitting up on his own!!! This was after lots of swimming. He was the hit of the pool. The days I went down without him, people asked where he was. (He was upstairs napping with Ric.)
Photo 3 - "Puffy face" We don't know why he does it but it's incredibly cute!
Photo 4 - All of our tootsies in the sand...ahhh

Cabo San Lucas (Ric's Picks)

AUGUST 26 - We're finally back from our first family vacation. We spent a week down in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, with my friend Beth and her son Zach. Mateo again did great on the plane. We gladly received compliments on how well-behaved he was on each of our flights. When we arrived, the weather seemed a bit gloomy and the resort was wet. Luckily, we were on the Baja Peninsula and not the Yucatan, which got slammed by Hurricane Dean. We still watched the weather reports religiously, even though we had sunny days pretty much the entire week. We took tons of pictures, but these are the few of Ric's favorites:
Photo 1 - Family Photo at the downtown Marina
Photo 2 - Mateo's impression of Tito Pat (don't you just love that belly?!)
Photo 3- Ric & Mateo watching the early morning surf
Photo 4 - Family Photo at the Brasilian Steakhouse (the filet mignon was to die for!)

Big Boy

AUGUST 11 - I couldn't believe that Mateo was able to sit up in a generic restaurant high chair. (We were having lunch at Siam Noodle & Rice, our favorite restaurant in Chicago) He saw Ruari sitting in one and might have gotten the idea from that. You can see how pleased he is with himself. And I was SO proud : )

Get me outta here!

AUGUST 10 - Chicago: I tried to get Mateo down for the night, but nosey little Ruari kept him up. He was all too happy to oblige.

Papito's Popcorn

Ric and I love to sit back with a bowl of fresh popped popcorn, but today Ric took it one step further. He actually purchased a miniature version of a 1950's popcorn cart. You can see just how small it is next to Mateo. It really does work too. After he opened and assembled it, he went out, bought the corn and the oil, came home and popped a cart full - literally. Mateo checked it out and couldn't believe that he was really taller than something.

Tricycle

I must admit, that I picked this picture not only because of Mateo but also because of the shirt he's wearing. You can probably guess that he has a few more bicycle/tricycle pieces of clothing than the average infant.

Polka Dots

AUGUST 6 - It appears that I have subconciously surrounded my son in lots of polka dots.
1. Car seat cover (on the floor in the background)
2. High chair
3. Pacifier

Highchair

Mateo has graduated to his high chair. I know he doesn't look too happy in this picture, but once you put the food in front of his face, he's a whole new boy. I just put Mr.Quincy in the picture because who doesn't like to look at TWO cuties?

IKEA

AUGUST 5 - Today was our first family trip to IKEA. They opened one up a couple miles from our house. It was a rainy day, so we figured fewer people would be out. Boy, were we wrong! We couldn't even imagine what it was like when it first opened.

Vertical Fun

When Mateo is tired of tummy time, or his playmat, or his bouncy, he wants to held upright. After many turns between Ric and I holding him in the standing up position, I finally remembered that, "Hey, we have something that can do this for us and may even be more entertaining." So I pulled out his Baby Einstein Activity Center, assembled it, and VOILE! Instant fun : ) Thank you again to Tita Tara and Uncle Eric Morley for the great gift.

Cradle Cap

AUGUST 4 - Mateo had a touch of cradle cap (itchy, scaly baby scalp) which irritated him so much that he kept scratching his head. I felt so bad because his little head started to bleed.
Ric came home and wondered why Mateo is wearing cap when it's 95 degrees outside. That's why.

Almost

We're making another attempt at getting Mateo to take a pacifier. You might be asking yourself why and especially at this age? We're heading down to Mexico for a weeklong vacation and were thinking that it might come in handy on the plane (3.5 hrs to Houton/2.5 hrs to Cabo San Lucas). We were almost successful but it never lasts more than a few minutes. You can see (photo 2) what he really prefers. Maybe we should just let sleeping dogs lie for this one.

Gag Me!

I have so many pictures now of Mateo sticking his tongue out, but this one was particularly funny because it looks as if he's ch0king himself. Of course, it wouldn't be quite as funny if he was actually trying to choke himself.

Good Morning

AUGUST 3 - Mateo is always so playful in the mornings. Here he is playing in our bed.
I thought he was trying to play Hide & Seek (photo 2) but he really was trying to do that "human burrito" thing again. Silly little boy!

ERASURE ROCKS!

JULY 31 - Tonight was my first night out without Mateo. Hard to believe that it's taken just over 5 months for this night to come. It couldn't be for a better reason though. erasure was in town, so Nina and I were there to sing and dance along. It was such a blast, especially since we had GREAT floor seats at the Detroit Music Hall.
